Filming in Lyon & the French Alps
Lyon and the Rhône-Alpes region offer a rare combination: a sophisticated, photogenic city surrounded by some of Europe’s most dramatic mountain landscapes. From the traboules of Vieux Lyon to the snow-capped peaks of Mont Blanc, this region serves productions that need urban texture, alpine grandeur, or both.
We provide fixer and production support across the region — permits, crew, logistics, equipment, and local coordination.
Lyon:
France’s third-largest city is a UNESCO World Heritage site with a distinct visual personality. The old town (Vieux Lyon) features Renaissance architecture and covered passageways. The Presqu’île between the Rhône and Saône rivers offers Haussmannian elegance. The Confluence district provides contemporary architecture. Fourvière hill overlooks the city with its basilica and Roman amphitheatres. Lyon is also the gastronomic capital of France — a production angle in itself.
The French Alps:
Chamonix and Mont Blanc — the highest peak in Western Europe (4,808m). Annecy and its crystal-clear lake, often called the Venice of the Alps. Megève and Courchevel for luxury ski resort settings. The Vercors plateau for remote, wild mountain landscapes. Grenoble as a base for alpine shoots with urban infrastructure nearby. The Alps offer year-round production potential: snow and winter sports from December to April, hiking and summer landscapes from June to September.
Logistics:
Paris to Lyon is 2 hours by TGV. Lyon has an international airport with direct European connections. Lyon to Chamonix is approximately 2h30 by car. We source local crew and equipment across the region and coordinate mountain-specific logistics including altitude safety, helicopter access for aerial filming, and winter driving.
Permits:
Urban filming permits in Lyon are handled through the city’s film office. Mountain locations may require authorizations from national or regional park authorities, municipal offices, and — for aerial filming — aviation authorities. We manage all permit applications across the region.
