Filming in Belgium — Brussels, Flanders & Wallonia

Belgium is one of Europe’s most practical filming destinations. A small, densely connected country at the heart of the EU, it offers diverse urban and rural locations within short distances, a multilingual workforce (French, Dutch, English), competitive production costs, and generous tax incentives for international productions.

We operate across Belgium from our base in Paris — Brussels is just 1h20 away by Thalys — and provide the same full-service fixer support we offer in France.

Brussels:

The Grand-Place — one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. The Art Nouveau heritage (Victor Horta’s buildings). The European Quarter (EU Parliament, European Commission) — essential for political, institutional, or news-related productions. The Marolles flea market and the multicultural neighbourhoods of Saint-Gilles and Ixelles. The Atomium and the Heysel plateau.

Flanders:

Bruges — medieval canals and architecture, one of Belgium’s most visited and photogenic cities. Ghent — a vibrant university city with a mix of medieval and contemporary architecture. Antwerp — fashion, diamonds, a major port, and striking art deco and contemporary architecture. The Flemish countryside — flat polders, windmills, and the North Sea coast.

Wallonia:

The Ardennes forest — dense woodland, river valleys, and castles. Dinant — a dramatic small town on the Meuse river. Liège — an industrial city with a raw, authentic character. The Waterloo battlefield — 15 minutes south of Brussels.

Tax incentives:

Belgium offers a Tax Shelter system that can cover up to 45% of qualifying Belgian expenditure on eligible audiovisual productions. This applies to fiction, documentary, and animation. The scheme is one of the most attractive in Europe and is available to both Belgian and foreign productions. We can connect you with local producers and tax shelter intermediaries to structure your production for maximum benefit.

Logistics:

Paris to Brussels is 1h20 by Thalys. Brussels to Bruges is 1 hour by train. Brussels to Antwerp is 45 minutes. Belgium’s compact size means that virtually any location in the country is reachable within 2 hours from Brussels. We source bilingual (French/English or Dutch/English) crew across the country.

Permits:

Filming permits in Belgium are handled at the municipal level (commune). Brussels has a dedicated film office. We manage all permit applications across Brussels, Flanders, and Wallonia.
