Filming in Northern France

Northern France — the Hauts-de-France region — is often overlooked by international productions, yet it offers unique locations that are hard to find elsewhere. Former mining towns, WWI and WWII battlefields and memorials, Flemish-influenced architecture, and the windswept Opal Coast provide a visual palette that’s raw, authentic, and deeply cinematic.

We provide full production support across the region.

Key locations:

Lille — a vibrant city with Flemish architecture, a lively cultural scene, and a strategic position near the Belgian border. Dunkirk — site of the famous WWII evacuation, with its wide beaches and industrial port. The Somme battlefields and cemeteries — essential for any WWI-related production. Arras and its distinctive Flemish squares. The Opal Coast — chalk cliffs, sandy beaches, and the dramatic landscape between Calais and Boulogne. Amiens and its cathedral (the largest Gothic cathedral in France). The Louvre-Lens museum — a striking modern architecture landmark. The former mining basin (UNESCO World Heritage site) — a unique post-industrial landscape.

Production advantages:

Northern France is the closest French region to the UK (Calais to Dover is 35 minutes by ferry, London to Lille is 1h20 by Eurostar). This makes it extremely practical for UK-based productions needing French locations without long travel. Paris to Lille is 1 hour by TGV.

Permits:

Municipal filming permits, access to war memorial sites (coordinated through national and Commonwealth war graves authorities), and protected monument authorizations — we handle everything.
